On The Job: 1974 De Tomaso Pantera Lusso

I’m going to start a new series of blog posts featuring the wonderful cars I’m privileged to work with. Tonight the 1974 De Tomaso Pantera Lusso!

This car has been refurbished by Joseph Potter Restorations and is now available at Sports Car Shop in Eugene, Oregon. I was fortunate to be asked to take photographs of this car and rushed to find a break in the Pacific Northwest rain. Interested parties are advised to bid for this car Friday afternoon at the Barrett-Jackson auction this January, Lot #944.

In my brief time behind the wheel of this car, I can honestly report that this car is fantastic! Joe and his team have done a great job making this car one of the best of it’s peers. The motor has gobs of torque and a long first gear that actually make in town driving a pretty easy affair. Tickling the gas in 2nd gear shoots the car forward with authority.

The high points of this short experience would be best summarized as follows:

  • Light, unassisted steering. Being mid-engined, there is very little weight over the front end. The steering is a real delight with so much feedback being communicated to the driver.
  • The exhaust note is pure sex. No shit. I’ll make sure to get some video the next time I’m nearby.
  • That long first gear really makes this 70’s supercar pretty easy to handle in town.
  • Those beautiful Chromodoara rims are really at home on this car. They really give this car fantastic presence.
  • And finally, Joe has secured a great spot in the Barrett-Jackson auction this January. I’m so excited to have even the smallest of connection to this great car in such a prestigeous auction!

Many thanks to Joe and Bob for the opportunity to get up close and personal with such a great example!

Porsche Crest Wallpapers!

I was doing some photo editing for Sports Car Shop tonight on a new piece of inventory, a 2000 Porsche 996 Carrera 2 with only 33k miles! I shot a quick pic of the crest and decided to make an wallpaper out of it. Not a perfect image, but the red is really striking.

2009 Portland Rose Cup Races Recap

Got a chance to hang out at PIR for an afternoon with Paul, Ed, Bob, and Brenda for the Rose Cup races, featuring the Trans Am series. The weather was a perfect high 70’s and cleared up nice by the time the main event was on. Congratulations to Tommy Drissi for his authoritative win in that Jaguar!

Here’s my quick pics from the event {yep, they’re over Photoshop’d, sue me!}:

BMW e30 M3 Alert: The Henna Red 38k mile eBay car is now No Reserve

BMW e30 M3 for sale in Henna Red 38k miles on eBay

This car has been listed on my blogs a couple times, but it never met reserve, reaching as high as $23,900. Now the Henna Red e30 M3 listed on eBay is back and no reserve.

I actually wonder if the auction will end up higher than $23.9k due to it’s no reserve status. If the background checks out on this car, seems like this could be a great opportunity for a collector and frankly I’m surprised it hasn’t sold previously.

1984 Renault Turbo 2 For Sale in Wisconsin

Renault Turbo 2 fans rejoice, for there is another stateside example for sale and it’s a beaut! Take a look at Jeff’s 1984 Renault T2 For Sale:

quote from Jeff about his car:

Here is my R5 with the new wheels installed. It runs and drives perfectly and looks great. It has approx 42,000 kilometers and would be a great addition to any collection. I would like $35,000 with standard wheels or $37,000 with both sets. A good friend of mine bought his 84 in blue a year ago for $48,000 on the East coast and I have to say although his is nice, mine is nicer.

Thanks for contacting me Jeff, and good luck with the sale — the car looks fantastic!

One of my Pictures is Being Used on the VFRD Calendar!

I’m excited to see that another picture I took earlier this year is being used for a club calendar! Here is Paul’s 1997 Honda VFR750 as submitted:

And how it will appear in the calendar:

I’m very pleased to have made the cut and to have a second picture published this year!

The Kind of Ad That Talks You Into Buying: 2001 Porsche Boxster

I’ve been contemplating a Boxster again, especially with the panic sales popping up left and right. But then an example like this comes along, and I’m really inspired. The kind of complete listing that convinces you this one has had the extra attention. A description that is obviously enthusiast written. Pictures that are good but not overdone. And the car is flawlessly detailed.

This is the quality of car I want for my next purchase. Dear Santa…

Another Low Miles e30 M3 Comes Out of Hiding

Here’s a perfect and bone stock 1988 BMW e30 M3 For Sale on eBay with only 38k miles. The car had only been listed for 2 hours and saw 10 bids immediate up to $18k, reserve not met. Has 6 days left.

quote from seller’s eBay listing:

This one will be swinging for the fences. I’m guessing $25k-ish being low miles, red on black, garaged and having received a recent $10k service. Post your guesses below in the comments. Closest guess to the winning bid gets notoriety and fame that will live on forever in this post!

Update: Auction ended no sale at $20,100.00.

Now Relisted

1993 Ducati 888 Superbike For Sale: Like New With Only 700 Miles!

quote from eBay listing:

Up for auction is this piece of treasure I’ve kept hidden away in my air conditioned garage. It’s a 1993 Ducati 888 and it is in excellent showroom condition. Purchased new and used only occasionally but I made it a ritual to always keep it running and in tune. The mileage is correct and is at a super showroom low of 712 miles. If you see the bike you will understand.

3 days to go, and currently at $9300 no reserve. I’ll update after the auction. (Update: Auction ended at nearly $10700!)

quote from CL posting:

Custom Connelly Leather and wood interior. New tires. 24 mpg 140 MPH. Manheim Gold Book says $17,000 for excellent. $13,000 for good. $25,000 for show. I think this is close to excellent. More than $35,000 invested. 56,000 miles
I will sell it this weekend to the best offer over $10,000

I had to check Wikipedia on the S1 to know all the specs on this car. Under 2200 pounds, 140hp engine, and mid-engined. What other exotic could you buy for $10k with these kinds of credentials and pedigree?

Ed, is this the same twin cam that was fitted to your Jensen?
