I met up with Ed and Paul for the Emerald Empire Sports Car Club Autocross on Sunday. What a fantastic day! No rain and an afternoon of mid 60’s and sunshine — who could ask for more?!
This was Ed and Paul’s first time autocrossing, and only my 3rd time. No matter though as the EESCC club is one of the friendliest and easy going groups involved in amateur motorsports. We had a great time and I’ll post the official times as soon as they’re posted on the EESCC site.
In the meantime, here’s some pics and vids:
Ed Rockin the MKV with the Maybachs:
Me getting ready to hit the start line:
And here are the videos (spectacular quality aren’t they?!)
Paul on track, parts 1 and 2:
One of my full laps. The car in front of me in the vid went on to post the fastest time of the day, which I think was around 36 seconds. My best was 41 seconds. Doesn’t sound like a big difference, but it’s an eternity on an autocross course:
And two parts for Ed too:
But the story of the day is that we nearly didn’t make it. Not only did Ed and Paul have a rather late night that only yielded 2 hours of sleep (ahem!!), when we arrived at the shop to retrieve the Rabbit, there was a trailer parked right in front of the bay doors!
It’s hard to tell from the pics, but there was no room to 3 point the car around to back her out of the narrow space that was available. So we put our hangover heads together and came up with a perfect solution: Jack up the rear axle and pivot the car into position:
I still can’t believe it worked!
And of course no post about the track rabbit is complete without another major thanks to Paul who has built us a bullet-proof car to goof around in! Another day of trouble-free racing!

Holy smokes! The solution for getting the rabbit out of the garage was genius! Pure genius!
Is that Joe Roger’s old rabbit? Nice site Dan. It is amazing what you can find when you have nothing better to do than surf the internet while at work.
We did actually start with Joe’s rabbit, but stumbled upon an even nicer 77 Panama Brown Rabbit during the process — from the original owner! And with no sunroof, we ended up saving a few pounds over head too. I’m pretty sure Joe’s rabbit now resides at B&R Auto Wreckers however!
“Nothing better to do than surf the internet while at work”… Nonsense, all of this material is sourced on my own time 😉
