As usual, I’m a sucker for low mileage, modern classic sports cars. This classic Porsche 928 fits the bill with only 35k miles. The 86 S model is one of those odd combination middle-year cars that got the updated 32 valve motor that was slated for the 87 S4 models, but hadn’t received the updated bodywork yet. I always liked the funkier early tail lamps anyway!

I am a big fan of the low mileage, showroom conditions sports cars and sports sedans, but I would only buy one with a manual transmission. Did all of the 928’s have automatic transmissions?
There were early 928, manual transmission equipped models, but most in the U.S. are auto’s. The few manual’s I’ve seen are typically either very beaten examples, or the seller recoginizes the rarity and charges a premium. And of course the late model GT and GTS models can sometimes be found with a manual, but these usually have an ultra premium attached as they were the last and the best of the breed.

I saw a copy of Excellence a while back and the 928S is certainly gaining in desirability. At this price I certainly think it is fair and something you might actually be able to make a buck on.
They always offered the manual trans. These cars are the best. The 86 is faster than some newer and all older models. Anyone claimming the stock single, “AC IS ICE COLD”; isn’t being honest. The ac was so poor, they offered an optional second ac unit between the rear seats. I beat the hell out of my cars. The 928’s never noticed. The stopping distance on the older ones would increase as the brakes heated-up. Not after 1985. If you like to drive, get the Porsche. If you like to repair, get a Ferrari, Lotus, or Jag.
